I have removed the controversial assertion -
from this article. There have been many claims and counter-claims about this particular topic and overwhelmingly, the claim has been refuted based on criteria such as -
- Structure
- Adaptability
- Non-ambiguiousness and context-free grammar.
If anyone has a definitive, scientific source to back up this claim, pls post here.

It is commonly known fact. It was first published in Forbes magazine. There are few Indian scientists who did not agree to this. I dont know if their was a big controversy.
Proofs- According to the Forbes magazine, Sanskrit is the most suitable language for computer software.
- And Sanskrit, through Latin, is accepted as the mother of all European languages. A 1987 report in Forbes magazine said Sanskrit was the most suitable language for computer software.
However few disagree [[६]]
- First off, let me reiterate that I respect your views. I also hold Sanskrit in very high regard when it comes to literature, origins and other such aspects. I would love for Sanskrit to be revived and be at the forefront just as much as the next guy. I also would hate for us (proponents of the language) to be self-congratulatory and be consumed by day-dreams.
- Having learnt theoretical Computer Science in depth and worked in the IT field almost all my life and knowing rudimentary Sanskrit, I find this claim fallacious.
- All the links you provided above are from non-scientific publications. All of them make assertions without any scientific proof or references to such writing. Each one seems to feed off the others, cross-referencing each other and pointing to a Forbes article that no one has cared to link....
- I think I read a few articles propounding Sanskrit as the most suitable language for programming some time ago. Even those articles lacked real technical details and instead fell back on the ancient-ness of the language and the apparent lack of need to invent words for new phenomena/objects.
- I believe (and I'll see if I can find references) that only an artificial language can be used for programming, which is totally context-free and fully deterministic. Such a language leaves no ambiguities for the consumer of text. That is the only way a deterministic machine such as a computer can process/udnerstand it. (With the exception of fuzzy/non-deterministic machines) Subsequently, such a language, by definition, has no place for काव्यशास्त्रविनोद in it, because everything written in it is cut-and-dry. (I know that some nerds do find snippets of C++ code really exciting, but that's besides the point :-])
- In spite of my above claims of working in IT for a long time and knowing sanskrit, I'm no great authority in either, so I'll defer this matter to a real expert in either (preferably both) fields. And I have not found any such reference, either in the links provided or elsewhere.
- In summary, there's no scientific proof in the links provided. My position still stands.
- Regards,

- p.s. In any case, even English is not suitable for programming. Although most modern programming languages look like English, they have their own grammar and rules for usage. For example, the 'while' in English has different connotations than 'while' in 'C' which is different from the 'while' in COBOL or ADA, and so on. The constructs seem English simply because the early designers of these languages happened to be proficient in that language and thought it fit to use language constructs from English.
- Hey no problem. I am a Marathi fanatic,(and not Sanskrit fanatic!!)
I do respect sanskrit a lot and I guess Forbes magazine said Sanskrit is must suitable for computing. I dont kow if this means programming languages as such. I personally think there must be some truth behind it . It seems a controversial topic and hence I agree that we should not include it. I shall find some other intresting trivia.
Sanskrit How much I (Mukund Srivastava a B.Tech computer science final year student) thinks is, weather it is a programming language or not instead of this I think that it can be a programming language. As how much I know is that for a language to be a programming language it is necessary that that language should be a unambiguous language for our 5th generation which is only possible when that language has a very deep and defined grammar.Hence for what the reason we are unable to use English as a 5th generation language.
So now here I can say that in terms of a complete, deep and defined grammar we can use Sanskrit language.
