Dear experts please go through following given problems along with foloowing links and suggest apropriate corrections for Marathi Wiktionary to function कळफलक well.

  • New Problem: a simple non-capital 'v' is supposed come as व but instead it is coming भ ;since last couple of days.Can this be rectified ?

  • In Marathi one needs to get a clustered alphabate 'ग्य' after pressing ग +य together.Presently 'ग +य' is coming ज्ञ . Hindi Language has got same pronounciation for ग्य and ज्ञ but in Marathi pronounciation of ग्य and ज्ञ is quite different.Present system 'ग +य' =ज्ञ is quite discomfort for Marathi writers.I will advice an additional sign along with 'ग +य to make ज्ञ ; may be something like 'ग +य + ~ '= ज्ञ

  • aa also need to come as आ (A)
  • Need signs for dirgha ॠ ॡ and also need signs for ङ र्‍ह र्‍य ज्ञ अः द्ध ज्ञ द्व

Also, cwa gives चःव rather than च्व

  • Also we need two vertical dot the visarga sign along with every Marathi alphabate like the dots coming in between when c is pressed repeatedly to create like (This Visarga sign looks like colan : but needs to be diffenent for search and bot purposes.

  • ए does not look like a Marathi ए. Its left arm is broken in the middle and the curvature of its upper portion is incorrect.
  • अand every consonent has to be written sometimes with a cresent above them. This is a must for writing in Marathi script, English words like absent, act, an, captain, bank etc. The cresent should be symmetrical against a vertical line and not slant. That means the free ends of the cresent should be be as if on a horizontal line. Sign of this cresent should be provided.
  • The consonents च, छ, ज, झ, and फ of Marathi and क ख ग ड ढ of Hindi/Urdu may require a Nukta under them. This sign of Nukta should be provided. The Marathi ल should have two arcs and a small stem(choti) connecting the second arc to the शिरोरेषा.
  • The consonents श, छ, ख, य, ल are not written in a standard Marathi way. The श requires a 'choti', the circle of छ should not have a loose end, The stomachs of ख and य should not touch the bottom level, preventing attaching a र to them.
  • The sign of first(short) इकार must have a variable width, so that it can fully cover consonents, and their ligatures of various width. e.g. While writing a letter like स्त्यि, the curve above the letter should start from the top of the first vertical line and end at the top of the last vertical line of य. Unless this is provided, the printing will not look Marathi.

transliteration problem संपादन

Yes, most of the Indian wikipedias may find themseves in this problem by 1st of Sept 2010. Malyalam Wikipedia is first to go over to new change I had an email discussion with one of their user , That I am giving for your ref. below but I think that is not sufficieant since there is one discussion here at usability discussion which shows malyalam wiki also was having the same problem. I think we will need to study and discuss this issue further. I am sure your technical background and intrest will help us

Thanks for reminder, giving priority to translations at translate wiki for usability intiative dead line , not many translations remaining need to finish those first. Before I forget second most important thing about vector implementation what did ml wiki do to retain tranliteration facility. I suppose this is very important aspect to all Indian language wikis so may be you can forward the reply through mailing list too.
Will catch on this aspect positively by Mondya or so .
Thanks and Regards
Mahitgar

Mahitgar,

You don't need to do anything special for vector. Transliteration will work. You can check this by changing your skin to Vector.

But there is a small issue with the control box (देवनागरी) that was near search box. In the new interface, we don't have space to place it. So we have included the tip about this inside the search box itself, which roughly says Press CTRL+ M for Malayalam. See Malayalam Wiki to see how it look like.

The control box will work in other places (for example, main edit window) without any issues.

I suppose this is very important aspect to all Indian language wikis so may be you can forward the reply through mailing list too.

Thank you Shiju

For now the transliteration is enabled by ctrl-z key, the message for changing the transliteration language is not being shown, I'll try to work on it.

All the other language wikipedias >> are getting ready for the change. Almost all the Indian language wiki projects use a transliteration program (a javacript) for typing text in the respective language/script. For Monobook, many wikis placed a control check box near the search box to switch ON/OFF the transliteration script. See this image for example, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/usability/6/62/Monobook.png When wikis switched over to Vector skin, this control box/check box is disappeared.

NOTE: The default skin of all the wiki projects (including all the Indian Language wiki projects) moved from the Monobook skin to the new Vector skin on 2010 September 1. Few Indian language wikipedias (Malayalam, Telugu, and Bengali) moved to Vector interface little earlier (2010 June 30).

After Malayalam Wikipedia switched over to new interface (vector), many Indian language wikipedians (especially Hindi, Bhojpuri, Marathi) have asked us about fixing this issue so that check box will appear in Vector skin also. But till today we were unable to find a solution.

Finally today, one Malayalam Wikipedian, Sadik Khaid is able to fix this issue and the check box problem is solved for the Vector skin. The code to add check box (to control the transliteration script) near the Search box is available in Sadik's test wiki at http://lab.dhudhu.com/index.php?title=Mediawiki:TranslitPatch.js

Copy the code displayed there and paste it inside Mediawiki:Common.js page of your wiki. You need to place inside the addTextEvent() function code. Following customization need to be done before placing it inside Mediawiki:Common.js

Part One

linktohelp.title= "To Enable or Disable xx language, Shrotcut: add shortcut here";

You need to change the message according to your requirement. In Malayalam wiki we changed this line to linktohelp.title= "മലയാളത്തിലെഴുതുവാൻ ഈ ഉപധി സ്വീകരിക്കുക, കുറുക്കുവഴി: Ctrl + M";

Ctrl + M is the shortcut key that we use in malayalam wiki to control the tranlieration script. In some wikis it is Ctrl + G and in some others it is ESC key.

Part Two

linktohelp.appendChild( document.createTextNode('Translit xx language') );

In Malayalam wiki, we changed this line to linktohelp.appendChild( document.createTextNode('മലയാളത്തിലെഴുതുക') );

This is the message that will appear near the search box. In Malayalam Wiki it is മലയാളത്തിലെഴുതുക In wikis that use Devanagri it might be देवनागरी.

Please let Sadik know in case you are facing some issue to fix this. His email id is sadik.khalid@gmail.com

Mahitgar and others,
Are you able to fix the transliteration problem. If not, please let me know if you need any help. You just need to follow the instructions in the last mail that I sent. If you could tell the problems that you face we will try to help you.

See Hindi Wikipedia also. But this time Hindi wikipedian Mayur has copied the whole transliteration program from Malayalam Wiki. Not just the script that I mentioned above. See this: http://hi.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%A4%B8%E0%A4%A6%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF:Mayurbot/vector.js

The shortcut key that we are using in Malayalam to control the script is CTRL + M. Now Hindi also copied the same. But I found that in some wikis people use CTRL + G and other shortcut keys. So ideally you need to customize the script according to your requirement.

Thank you, Shijualex! I copied the file from Hindi Wikipedia and seems to be working fine here!
