It's a surprise...

Hi,

Well, making me a sysop is a surprise for me, indeed a good surprise... Thanks for that reco. I consider that it is necessary for sysops to use their rights with more responsibility.

I think, there are several issues that we need to discuss and sort out. To begin with - To protect MainPage to be edited by others. People can discuss their concerns on that page's discussion tab, but no direct editing. It is recommended and in English and other wikipedia, it is implemented. Also, visit Special:Recentchanges frequently to know what's happening... Another part is about May 1st the Maharashtra Day and transformation of Wikipedia!

मे १ हा महाराष्ट्र दिन आहे. संपूर्ण पान आणि सर्व संदेश मराठी बनविण्याबरोबरच माहितीदेखील जमा करावयास हवी. 'हिंदी विकिपीडिआ' वर 'Computer Terminology' दिलेली आहे. त्यातील आणि system messages मधील सर्व महत्वाचे शब्द परिभाषा यादी मध्ये असणे गरजेचे आहे. आणखी एक महत्वाची गोष्ट म्हणजे, icons साठी मी प्रतिक शब्द योजला आहे, बाकी images साध्या नावानेच राहू द्याव्यात असे वाटते. तसेच ज्या images मध्ये मराठी लिपीतील शब्द किंवा संज्ञा आहेत, त्यांना मराठी नावे देणे अधिक श्रेयस्कर ठरेल. उदा. "ऋतू_१.png"

एकदा हिब्रू विकीपीडिआ पाहून घे. कदाचित मे १ पर्यंत मराठी विकिपीडिआ देखील तसाच करता येईल.

Devanagari setup article: Restructuring required

Hello,

I strongly feel that wikipedia devanagari setup article needs to be restructured.

It should be more sparse for user and should be easy to navigate.

Any inputs? I am half-way of restructuring.

I am creating separate sections for "OS", "Env", "apps". In envs, display and input should be taken care of.

Apps should be focus on browsers, stand-alone and integrated apps.

Plan for May 1st ???

Hi,

I think we need to push forward our plans for May 1st.

I believe that we need to furnish at least two articles:

1. Maharashtra

2. An article about Marathi cuisine (e.g. Thalipeetha , Puranapolee, etc)

Daily featured articles seem to be difficult at this moment, but weekly should be sustainable.

Tell me your ideas in this direction...

Better idea! I have begun with the work little bit. But your contributions are needed because only three days are left as such and on April 30th, we need to finalize it.

For Hebrew-wikipedia style, little work is necessary as you can quickly point out that they are using 'icon themes'. It is little difficult at this time.

I am having expansion plan on July 1st and then on August 15th. Till that time we can get more insight with more experience. Even we would have invented something by our own.

About Maharashtra article, I am going to write an article about 'sanyukta maharashtra chalaval'. We need to create more templates like 'neutrality warning', 'public domain images' and also the interface. I am thinking of changing the interface as it requires little work. I remember you were interested in that. So probably I can unprotect it for some time, may be 5-6 hours and you can quickly complete it. Here I mean that front-page labels only. Rest of the part we can postpone (e.g. special pages, etc).

I think, there is some rule which stops users to edit in MediaWiki namespace.

If it is that way I am not convinced why it is so.

Meanwhile I am looking at some song dedicated to Maharashtra. Three candidates in my mind

1. Mangal desha pavtria desha 2. Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha and 3 . Bahu asot sundar saMpanna ki maha

I would prefer third one. But still looking for lyrics of all three.

That's very nice choice. Dinvishesh is little complex stuff and thus challenging as well. I have made a template for it and you can continue with that.

However I would suggest to have a look at English wikipedia anniversary management process. I think we can devise something similar here. See en:Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/May.

Yes. I think by today evening, I can complete that part of CURRENTMONTHNAME , CURRENTDAY and other variables.

I have craeted one template for दिनविशेष. About Wikipedia:दिनविशेष पान आणि Wikipedia:दिनविशेष/मे ७, I could not get purpose of former one. With little elaboration, can you prepare an overall plan ?

I think by this weekend, we can complete this task and Monday onwards it can be ready. esakal.com and pudhari.com have good stuff related to the subject.

Variable changes

I could not find any help about how to change values of CURRENTMONTHNAME and other variables. No doubt they are picked up from an array or similar, but not clue I could get after searching for one and half hour.

Meantime we can create the articles and upload it. These variables help in autopickup of articles, untill we find some clue, we will maintain it manually.

I am taking remaining two sections i.e. weekly column and 'did you know' section.

Also see this URL. This should be related stuff. Marathi Language.php Page and also this one containing list of all languages. It says Marathi language translation has begun.

Wikipedia namespace change

Hello कोल्हापुरी,

Now the mukhprushtha is looking really cool. Well one suggestion, please rename the pages from namespace 'Wikipedia:दिनविशेष/मे ८' to 'विकीपीडिआ:दिनविशेष/मे ८'.

If possible, just checkout in English wikipedia how do they archive or keep track of old dates. Similarly, having a template of calendar months and year is good idea indeed. I will look into it.

You were interested in localization into a Marathi interface. Now again you got a change :)

The localization is done from two places. One is meta-wiki site and another is routine Special:Allmessages.

Now the meta-wiki site has LanguageMr.php file that we need to modify. Fortunately (??) anybody can edit it.

If you have meta-wiki account, just log into and change it accordingly.

Wikipedia Promotion

I am thinking of a new scheme to promote Marathi wikipedia. Now it has at least two points viz.,

1. Article promotion i.e article of week (month, year, etc). The user will receive a barnstar from sysops for article of month.
2. Something similar to Village Pump of English Wikipedia.
