==Use of international form of Indian numerals in Devanagari script==
Hello Sankalp,
You have suggested that I use Devanagari form of Indian numerals while writing numbers in Marathi. I do not agree with your suggestion. It is my firm belief that numbers in all Indian languages should be written only in international form of Indian numerals so that there is uniformity throughout the country. After all the numerals are Indian (though the westerners mistakenly called them Arabic) and a uniform form (international form) of writing them in all Indian languages will help the country. That is why the wise persons who wrote the Constitution of our country in the years 1947-49 decided that the Devanagari form of Indian numerals should be discarded and the international form of Indian numerals should be used while writing in Devanagari script. All South Indian languages use only the international form of numerals. All Bengalis of current generation, whom I know, use international form of numerals while writing in Bangla (Bengali). However, many Bengalis of older generation continue using Bangla (Bengali) form of numerals. Such parochial tendencies do not do any good to our country and its people. I do not know who decided that all Marathi pages on Wikipedia will use only Devanagari form of Indian numerals. I do not think such a condition can be imposed on all editors - at least not on me.

I have lived for decades in Mumbai (when it was Bombay in English and also after it became Mumbai in English), Pune, Aurangabad and many other cities in Maharashtra and I have seen visitors from other places struggle to read the numbers on buses, road signs and even on milestones on highways and then ask others what is written. Why do you want to avoid uniformity in numerals throughout the country? I have lived in many other countries and seen them using international form of Indian numerals. There is no honour lost in discarding script-specific form of Indian numerals if a greater good is done for integration of the country. Do you remember that Modi script was discarded to adopt Devanagari script for writing Marathi? Why can't Devanagari numerals be discarded now?

My mother tongue is Hindi and I use only international form of Indian numerals while writing in Devanagari script. My knowledge of and command over Hindi is excellent though the same cannot be said of my knowledge of Marathi. I will continue using international form of Indian numerals in Devanagari script whether in Hindi, Marathi, Nepali or Sanskrit.)
