Wikistress is stress caused by activity on a wiki like Wikipedia, or more specifically by conflict, vandals, trolls, edit wars and incivility.
Dealing with wikistress
संपादन- Don't take yourself too seriously!
- Stop looking at your watchlist. It contains pages that you are emotionally involved with. Ignore it. Find new pages that you don't care so much about. It probably also contains stressful pages like which should be avoided. Angela 02:03, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Of course, not having any page in your watchlist is a good start :) 02:05, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Read this whole page. There are some real stress relievers in the page itself, that don't have to be taken literally Vandalism destroyer 22:58, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Take a (semi-) vacation. Treat yourself to relaxation, favorite TV shows, and time with friends and family, and maybe try something new. If you must log on to Wikipedia, don't edit anything unless it's about Elmo or a favorite Teddy Bear of yours.
- Better yet, remove articles causing stress from your watchlist. Anthère
- Wipe your watchlist completely clean - this really wipes the slate of stress away. Then consider adding a few back again some time later. --Alfakim 10:55, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
- Go home to bed and don't still be editing at 2AM Archivist 02:15, Nov 14, 2003 (UTC)
- Take a break from the articles bringing you stress. Realize there are over 100 other people here who can deal with the problems. And in a week or two you can always come back to those articles with a fresh mind, fresh ideas. 02:27, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Remember that your wiki-services are just as crucial when you help to and as your services are when you fight trolls. Continual troll-fighting makes wikiworkers tired. So go find a new project elsewhere :) 02:27, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- If you are too dedicated to stressful things to do something else, go to and read up on defining and dealing with conflict—it's a good diversion and I always learn something over there — BCorr ¤ Брайен 02:46, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- If you are just reverting and deleting and not enjoying yourself then STOP. Someone else will have to deal with it. Do something else. Secretlondon 22:54, Nov 14, 2003 (UTC)
- It is only Wikipedia. It is not *that* important in the run of things. Secretlondon 22:54, Nov 14, 2003 (UTC)
- Just switch to another Wikipedia or Wikimedia project. Working at a language you hardly manage is highly beneficial, since you do not understand anything of what is going on. Anthère 23:00, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- DO NOT go to or —Alexandros 23:03, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- If you cannot just switch off your computer, then read and enjoy some articles from . Absolutely refrain from editing any of them. Choose subjects you do not know a lot about and become an ordinary, traditional encyclopaedia user, at least while you are reading the article(s) you have decided on. Alternatively, go through “Random pages” until you come across an article worth nominating for . —KF 23:20, 14 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- I believe some sort of radical change in editing process is the ultimate and only solution to this problem. — Taku 23:43, Nov 14, 2003 (UTC)
- Call yourself on IRC and scream. Anthère
- Or you can use Sandbox too. — Taku — To scream ? Anthère — Yeah. No? Taku
- Contribute on geographic articles. They are tedious, inherently boring and it is extremely hard to be emotional to them. — Taku 22:40, Nov 15, 2003 (UTC)
- *Cough cough* Gdansk *Cough cough*
- Remind yourself why it's best to avoid fights and ignore trolls (as Larry Sanger often said): Flame wars, Why are trolls trolls? and How to spot a troll. — BCorr ¤ Брайен 05:31, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Take a day off from Wikipedia once in a while. Angela 08:35, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Take a wikivacation: Every so often, turn your need to edit into a need to explore the world around you. Don't forget to take notes and photos and come back to Wikipedia and write articles about what you learned and illustrate those articles with the photos you took. I do this often and it keeps me fresh and excited about Wikipedia! —Maveric149 20:55, 19 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Anything dull and uncontroversial helps. Go remove all the links to some disambiguation page. Then do the same for another. And another. And another. Repeat till calm. Note all the great encyclopedia articles you see in the process.
- Unsubscribe from the mailing lists and escape the pointless repetitive arguments, the endless recriminations and the general desire to create more heat than light. Angela 18:46, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Alternatively, re-read the mailing lists from previous months and years. Reminisce about past scandals and laugh at how the same issues repeat themselves year on year.
- Assume stupidity, not malice. (Hanlon's Razor)
- Remember that you're not compelled to work on Wikipedia, unlike schoolwork or your daytime job!
- If you're annoyed, or angry, or depressed by Wikipedia, take a week off and chill. Exposure to real life will cure you. #If you're getting into frequent pointless edit and flame wars in controversial subjects like and , spend some time instead editing something else you care about: your home town, your favourite band, the last excellent book you read. If you only want to edit controversial topics like and then, well, you're the architect of your own . #yourself for a while. Try to find stubs and put them a mark, or if you find a medical page, put the “No medical advice” notice. Or put silliness into VfD, or... All of this while you listen to your favourite music. This is Pfortuny from the en.wikipedia. 17:11, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Redirect your user page to and forget about Wikipedia for awhile. 18:16, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Take a break and read . It will give you a new appreciation for the beauty that is sometimes created out of chaos. — BCorr ¤ Брайен 04:33, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

- Calm yourself with some nostalgia. Create a new article about a favourite children's television show you remember from your youth, or a singer you had a crush on, etc. Fabiform 04:29, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Go on strike.
If you have a to-do list, enclose it in <strike> tags for a week or two.Benc 07:31, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC) - DO NOT edit articles listed in . The probability is extremely high that someone is still working on that article. If you edit it, they will respond immediately, and possibly negatively. Or there may be the dreaded “edit conflict”. - Get a real job
- If you're religious, take some time to clear your head. Even if you're not, giving yourself a few minutes of quiet time, focusing on your breathing, could do wonders.
- Break in Area 51 at night, steal a high-tech laser bazooka from the aliens the government is tied in with, shoot any robotic guards that run after you (humans are government employees, start at 9, quit at 5), then plug the USB into your computer, and shoot any user that is a troll or a vandal or even a Wikistress causer with a virtual laser bazooka blast. They will probably not annoy you anymore. Or you can do what most people, not me, do. Go to other Wikimedia projects and get your contributions higher on those projects. Don't fill your life with excitement. (Side effects of my solution maybe Federal Prison, death, and being cut open by aliens.).
- Smile and plot revenge at the people with the stick up their ass.

- Play some kind of online game, any which requires as much of your attention as possible (like board games, real time strategy games, first person shooters, etc. ... ). These can help you get your mind off whatever is causing you wikistress. In the worst case scenario your stress will be shifted towards bad/obnoxious players in those games, leaving you fresh for more time on Wikipedia!
- Crawl the Jargon File
- Of course you could decide to pick up your towel and find out what is known about the great "unknown" and leave all this stress to the computer. Seeings as how it brought it into your life it's only fair that you politely decline and inform the computer that any editing should be left directly up to it instead of trying to get humanoid to touch its "buttons" with such and enticing offer as making other people read your views on computer politics. -RevRogue-

- Breathe deeply and remember that Wikipedia is far, far bigger than anything else known to Humankind, or indeed, ever invented by us, since we first developed a conscious mind (and a conscience?).
