In the Karjat taluka, and in Matheran, a great movement against the British was created while the country was under imperialism. Azad Dhat is one of them. Brother Kotwal was successful in raising the ranks of the young people who were eager for independence.

The Azad squad had a great fear of the British. The British rewarded the capture of the members of this organization. The British arrested Bhai Kotwal and Hiraji Patil as a result of the incident. The sacrifice of the two martyrs is coming to an end on January 5, which is two years away.

In Matheran, Bhausaheb Raut ignited the flame of patriotism in the minds of the young. In 1959, Mahatma Gandhi called upon the British to 'go away'. Brother Kotwal and his colleagues from Matheran were present at the Gowalia Tank Ground in Mumbai to protest.

Mumbai was the financial hub. Some of the vessels supplying electricity to Mumbai were passing through Karjat, Ambarnath. With the help of the tower which is supplied to the Tata Power Station at Bhiwapuri, Mumbai will be shocked if the tower is demolished. The idea was presented by Bhai Kotwal's chief of the independent team, Gomaji Patil.

It was decided to demolish the Pilan (Tower) in Doane, near Vangani, on September 7, 1969. Bhagat Master in Manavali area near Nerala, Ram Lal Srivastava, Bhaskar Tambat, Deshmukh and other young congregants in Mumbai along with twenty to twenty-five colleagues implemented the plan to demolish the tower. These revolutionary nightmares went underground and implemented the day's plans. He also had the support of the villagers.

Gradually, the British government was shocked by the power cuts and the tower collapsed. They rewarded the revolutionaries for their capture. He started beating, arresting, harassing members of the Azad squad. Among them was Hiraji Patil, son of Gomaji Rama Patil of Agrai community. They were captured by the British.

Brought from Kerala to Kalyan. However, Hiraji got rid of British tawdry and joined the Azad squad. At that time, he was staying in the forest area of Siddhgad in Murbad taluk. At this time Bhai Kotwal sent a letter to a tribal woman carrying milk bread from here to give to a person named Patil at Borgaon.

However, the letter was handed over to the British police. Police took the troops to Siddgad and opened fire on Azad squad members. Bhai Kotwal and Hiraji Patil received casualties in the shooting.

Bhaskar Tambat was also injured in the shooting. They died four days later. On the occasion of the sacrifice of the martyrs of Bhai Kotwal and Hiraji Patil, a large number of patriotic events are organized mainly in Karjat and Murbad taluka.
